ABOUT MINA:

Mina is a precious little girl recently rescued from an orphanage in Eastern Europe who is now finally home with her forever family! She had been without a mother or father to love her & care for her each day. No one to rock her, kiss her gently or tell her she's loved. She is blessed with an extra chromosome known as Down syndrome, which for her that meant a life of being viewed as worthless in the country she was born into & a life without hope. Because of this her parents gave her up at the age of 6 months when they found out the diagnosis & from there her life progressivly went down hill. We are the Gower family residing in OKC who recently adopted this little angel. She was extremely malnourished and unable to do just about anything when we first met her. She will be 2 in January & is the size of a 3-6 month old weighing 14lbs. She continues to amaze us at how quickly she is progressing with love and nutrition. She has learned to sit up, roll over, feed herself finger foods, hold her own bottle and loves to interact with toys and other children. Her life has changed so much in such a short period of time and will forever be changed! Thank you Lord for putting a burden on our hearts to rescue this little blessing and making her apart of our family!

Taxi cab confusion & tummy aches!

I feel like we've been telling you mostly about the same jane monotony of each day but since several people have said they get on each day to check I didn't want to leave you all hanging.

Our driver is still out of town so he called a taxi for us this morning. We were supposed to call him once we made it to the taxi so he could tell him where to take us. So we got in the taxi, tried to call Rostik but our Ukrainian phone had run out of minutes so we where sitting in the back thinking what in the world are we going to do and how are we going to tell the driver where to take us.  Thankfully, just a couple days ago I took a picture of the orphanage from the road view where we get dropped off.  I showed him that picture and thankfully he knew exactly where it was and took us there.  Praise the Lord for that picture. Had we not had that I don't know what we would have done.

It was so difficult figuring out how much we owed him after the ride because we don’t understand their numbers when they speak them only if they write it down. So we just handed him $ and hoped for change : )

Rostik must have called a driver for us after our morning visit because there was a taxi waiting for us or I should say impatiently honking at us while we were trying to figure out what we were supposed to do. LOL The other couples translator (Julia) that is always with them came up to the taxi for us and talked to him to make sure he was our driver and Rostik must have already told him where to take us because off he went and we arrived at the correct apartment complex so that was good. Julia wrote down on paper the address to the orphanage and the address to approximately where we live so that next time we can get in the taxi and show them the piece of paper and they should know where to take us. So we are very grateful for that. Hopefully that will make the next few days (or however long Rostik is gone) go smoother. Oh how we miss him!

For the afternoon visit Jim met up with the other couple and road with them to and from the orphanage so that was good that he didn’t have to worry about getting a cab or anything.

On the way back home he stopped by and figured out how to add more minutes on our phone so that we will be able to call people here in Ukraine.

Todays visit with Mina was just about the same as usual. We played outside today because it was a much cooler day! She enjoyed riding in daddy's lap on the merry go round thingy.

Myla and I stayed at home this afternoon. She managed to take her naptime diaper off between the time we layed her down and the time she fell asleep in bed so she woke up with wet bedding & a wet blankie.  She doesn't like it very much when she has to wait patiently for her "blankie" to air dry after it's been washed.
We had chicken and rice soup for supper that I made (although it is hot here- & definitely not soup weather :) because Myla and I have had tummy problems since yesterday so I thought that might be soothing. It was good but Chicken soup just doesn’t taste right to me without chicken base or bouillon cubes for added flavoring.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day or evening whenever it is that you may be reading this. Please say an extra prayer for Myla and I to feel better tomorrow. Thank you all!! We will post pics tomorrow!

LOVE YOU!!!
thats the wonderful thing about blogs- hearing about someone else's every day stuff.... and that is why we keep reading yours.
I am so thankful you guys followed God's direction to get us a super sweet niece- and I know that this "waiting" time to get her is intentional- He has a plan, just watch for Him working around you.
Love you sis.
