ABOUT MINA:

Mina is a precious little girl recently rescued from an orphanage in Eastern Europe who is now finally home with her forever family! She had been without a mother or father to love her & care for her each day. No one to rock her, kiss her gently or tell her she's loved. She is blessed with an extra chromosome known as Down syndrome, which for her that meant a life of being viewed as worthless in the country she was born into & a life without hope. Because of this her parents gave her up at the age of 6 months when they found out the diagnosis & from there her life progressivly went down hill. We are the Gower family residing in OKC who recently adopted this little angel. She was extremely malnourished and unable to do just about anything when we first met her. She will be 2 in January & is the size of a 3-6 month old weighing 14lbs. She continues to amaze us at how quickly she is progressing with love and nutrition. She has learned to sit up, roll over, feed herself finger foods, hold her own bottle and loves to interact with toys and other children. Her life has changed so much in such a short period of time and will forever be changed! Thank you Lord for putting a burden on our hearts to rescue this little blessing and making her apart of our family!

Sat~ Visits, Market, Cute videos!

Mina apparently is not an outdoorsy girl... yet :) Quite opposite from her sister who thinks she could live outside. Every time we decide to go outside Mina gets cranky. I don't know if it's just cause it's hot or maybe allergies or what but she all of a sudden turns on the fussy switch and she is just not having it. The past few times we've walked around with her and every time she passes out within about 5 minutes of being outdoors. Something about the sun must really put her to sleep unless she is just not getting much sleep at night.

Here she is sleeping in Daddy's arms!

All the bites covering her legs.

After the mornings visit. Darla (from OK) and Julia (her translator) and I all walked down to the market up the street from the orphanage. It is like an extremely huge flea market. It was so so hot and only occasionally would we feel a draft of breeze. It is extremely crowded and lets just say you have NO personal space whatsover. Julia literally got hugged by some strange woman that wasn't watching where she was going. It is small spaces to walk and very crowded. I ended up getting extremely tired, dizzy and weak and had to sit down for a bit (or I should say squat because you are not supposed to sit down on the ground anywhere because they say it will make you infertile and the ground is no place for sitting).... although at the moment I thought I could just lay on the dirty ground I felt so bad. After I ate some protein and downed the rest of my bottle of water I felt better. We found a few things and then left to go to the City center (where lots of pics posted on previous blog posts have come from.) It is called the walking street where we go to most places here in the city. Thats where Myla jumps in the blow up toys, NY pizza is there, the fountains, etc. It's a busy area. So we ate lunch and then went to a mall and walked around some more. Not much luck in the mall cause everything is so expensive here as far as clothing and children's things go. I wasn't about to pay 1,000 grivnas for a dress.

After our full afternoon of shopping I rushed back to the apartment, came inside, talked to my mom a minute and then back out the door to head to the orphanage for the afternoon visit. By the end of the day I was so exhausted I made it in the door of the apartment and passed out on the couch I was so sleepy. Lots of walking in the heat and it sure wore this out of shape American out.

Here's a pic of the market... wish I had taken more pics to show you. We hope to go back one day when it is cooler.

Mina's new hat I found for only 10 grivnas (approx $1.25 USD) I like this hat... so cute!

She likes it too!!

Bought her some hairbows that have bands since she doesn't have much hair. The package of bows kept her entertained for close to an hour... she loved the crinkle of the plastic.

My pretty new bow!

Such a precious little princess! I just love that smile!!

Adorable videos. Mina loves making kissy faces now that she knows how! So cute!!!

Tracey,
The 10 days will technically be up on Friday meaning Saturday would be the day~ But offices will be closed Sat, Sun, Mon, & Tues. So we will go Wednesday the 25th to get her birth certificate to get her out of the orphanage.
On her weight I would guess around 13 lbs.... not real sure & not very good at guessing weight :) We will see when she goes to the Dr. Her legs are definitely tiny!
