ABOUT MINA:

Mina is a precious little girl recently rescued from an orphanage in Eastern Europe who is now finally home with her forever family! She had been without a mother or father to love her & care for her each day. No one to rock her, kiss her gently or tell her she's loved. She is blessed with an extra chromosome known as Down syndrome, which for her that meant a life of being viewed as worthless in the country she was born into & a life without hope. Because of this her parents gave her up at the age of 6 months when they found out the diagnosis & from there her life progressivly went down hill. We are the Gower family residing in OKC who recently adopted this little angel. She was extremely malnourished and unable to do just about anything when we first met her. She will be 2 in January & is the size of a 3-6 month old weighing 14lbs. She continues to amaze us at how quickly she is progressing with love and nutrition. She has learned to sit up, roll over, feed herself finger foods, hold her own bottle and loves to interact with toys and other children. Her life has changed so much in such a short period of time and will forever be changed! Thank you Lord for putting a burden on our hearts to rescue this little blessing and making her apart of our family!

Bubble fun~ Afternoon visit!

I am extremely amazed by every visit in the changes we see in Mina. Each time she seems more and more alive, smiles more and more, and wants to play and interact more. She is in love with her daddy. I can already tell she is going to be a huge daddy’s girl just like her sister.

We have been working with her trying to help her sit up. Today Jim and I just helped balance and support her in a sitting up position for about 45 min while she played with toys and then later when she was sitting in my lap and Jim got up and walked out of view she actually sat up on her own in my lap for about 15 seconds. She then did it several more times when she really wanted to see something or watch her daddy or her sister. We were so proud of her. Although each time wasn’t for long it is definitely a huge start. Just a few days ago she couldn’t at all even attempt to try to sit up she’d just fall straight over. She is also starting to reach for us to pick her up. It is so neat to see and experience the little changes in such a brief time and the joy of how her life will forever be changed. We can’t wait to help her grow and learn and just see her come more and more to life like she should be. She is such a beautiful sweet girl. She absolutely loves kisses. The first time I kissed her lots on the cheek she just looked at me and then started to grin. She is like a baby when you kiss her where she tries to chase your kisses with an open mouth : )

So I think the reason she was given this awful hair cut is because she has several bald spots all over the back of her head. … prob from laying on her back and rubbing her head from side to side. As you all have seen her pic we had of her she had pretty long hair so that is what I was thinking it would look like… but I think they buzzed her hair just about all off before we got there so the bald spots in the back wouldn’t stand out. Can’t wait till her beautiful hair grows out. Wish I brought some little headbands to put bows on. It’s a little hard to keep bows in her hair with it so short.

Here’s a few pics of this afternoons visit.

My flip flop broke when we were out walking to the store to buy some more water so while Jim ran back to the apartment to grab me some shoes Myla got to play here: she loved it!!

Hi Melissa,
I am reading your blog with anticipation every day! The photos of you all are so beautiful and precious. Seeing how Mina is "holding on" now to your arms just makes me cry...how this little child is in such need of one-on-one love, and to be held and cuddled...so sweet. Praying for your court date this week.
